Sarah Bernhardt and her Griffon - Hamlet.
We found this AMAZING post on one of our newest follower’s blogs.
We had previously feature Sarah and her Griffon, however the picture we had was no where near as good as this one. In addition to discovering this amazing new image we learned that Sarah’s Griffon’s name was Hamlet. Hamlet is such a FANTASTIC name for a Brussels, he had such presence. We are loving how Hamlet looks straight into the camera.
You can clearly see see how much Sarah loved her friend Brussels Griffon in this photograph, it is a real treasure.
Hamlet was a very special boy, a Griffon to be reckoned with.

Forget Lady Gaga no one has ever grasped the art of eccentricity like Sarah Bernhardt. Her menagerie of animals included a Griffon, puma, ocelot and a champagne drinking alligator called Ali-Gaga (who died from consuming too much milk and champagne).
Her performances were legendary and her affairs outrageous. Above all her choice of canine friend particularly eccentric and fabulous. I guess like attracts like.

Griffonology cool fact:
Brussels Griffons were REALLY the inspiration for Chewbacca and the Ewoks; it is not a coincidence that they look so much alike.
George Lucas has had Griffon packs for years; he has something like 5 of them at a time. I have been trying to get my hands on a pic of Lucas with his Griffs but have not been able to procure a picture as of yet. In any case, we know people that know people that have actually been to Lucas’s home & have actually seen his Griffs.
It would be AMAZING to get a Lucas Griffon scoop one of these days; if anyone out there can make our dream come true let us know.
